Local and international photography on show

Local and international photography will be on show at allocated galleries, cafes, restaurants and the streets of Sydney from April 29 to June 5, 2010.

The festival involves 67 venues exhibiting over 80 shows and events.

Featuring over 300 Australian and international photographers, exhibitions can be seen at public galleries such as the Museum of Sydney and Manly Art Gallery, commercial galleries, cafes, restaurants, and at Centennial Park, where indoor and outdoor exhibitions will be held as well as photography workshops.

The festival centres on the flagship Head On Portrait Photography Prize, which has been running for seven years.

Other festival events include: a retrospective of Oculi -- one of Australia’s top photojournalists’ collectives; Walkley’s slideshow; a retrospective of 70's photographer, the late Rennie Ellis; and “Head Off” -- showcasing panoramic landscapes on large canvases at Paddington Water Reservoir.

Ticketed events at the National Art School include a two-day seminar and mini-tradeshow (the 2009 seminar was booked out within an hour) with the participation of Griffith University and AIPP (Australian Institute of Professional Photographers). Also showing is a series of multi-media slideshow screenings.

“As with the Head On Portrait Prize, our aim with the festival was to attract a wide range of excellent photography from Australia and overseas that speaks for itself -- regardless of whether or not the photographer is well known,” says festival director Moshe Rosenzveig.
