Photoplay Films has announced the arrival of director Andrew Lancaster and producer Angie Fielder to the Photoplay Films roster.
Lancaster, who is possibly better known for his music composition work through Supersonic and now Sonar, has a long list of awarded music videos and short films to his name.
Recently he directed his first feature film, Accidents Happen, starring Academy award-winner Geena Davis, which premiered at the Tribeca Festival in New York in 2009.
A darkly humorous and moving film, Accidents Happen is a tale of family, fate and misfortune set in 1970's American suburbia.
As with all his film work, Lancaster was particularly involved in the music score, collaborating with Luke Steele (aka Empire of the Sun) to create the title track of the film.
Accidents Happen opens theatrically in Australia in late April and in the USA in August.
At AFTRS Lancaster directed as well as composed two short films Palace Cafe and Universal
Appliance Co. which between them, have won fifteen awards worldwide.
In Search of Mike premiered at Sundance in 2001 and won seven awards, most notably the Rouben Mamoulian Award and Dendy Award at the 2001 Sydney Film Festival.
Lancaster has also directed over twenty music videos over the years and won two ARIA awards for best Australian Music Video.
Oliver Lawrance, Photoplay EP, says: "We're really excited to have Andrew and Angie join Photoplay."
"We've worked a lot with Andrew as a composer over the years and I've also personally been a fan of his music videos and his short films for a while, having even been to a few gigs of his when he was in Custard and other bands!
"He's a very talented guy and a great fit at Photoplay, as he combines drama, wry comedy and music in a style that's unique. It's perfect that he's teamed up with producer Angie Fielder who's also a great talent in her own right, having produced three short films that have premiered at Sundance and Berlin.”
