zspace create a new world for TV1

After winning the pitch to introduce a new look and feel to the TV1 brand late last year, zspace kicked off 2010 as production commenced on the new package.

The package was a challenge; as TV1 called upon zspace to revise the look of its five mini-brands (Generic, Comedy, Crime, Afternoons and Groovy Movie), giving each one its own particular flavour by applying a different look and feel. While at the same time retaining the mother brands modern retro vibe.

Toscha Irving, head of design, TV1 briefed the zspace team with her initial concept and storyboards, creating a base foundation for the team to work from and further develop.

zspace had just 12 weeks from start to finish, to complete the entire 3D package, including a long and varied list of deliverable's; everything from a 45” ident, to 10” openers and a vast array of promo package elements. zspace were also required to deliver an After Effect project that could easily be updated (with new information down the track) by the in-house TV1 design team.

zspace lead designer Karen Tran comments: “While the TV1 package was a lot of work to get through, it was also one of those projects that was a huge amount of fun to be part of, as we carefully created the different looks for each mini-brand to ensure a range of individual identities."

The various TV1 personalities are also featured throughout, by using a technique that projects their 2D image onto a 2D card, that is then seamlessly tracked and composited into a 3D environment.
