Unleashed - Queensland design on tour

Some of Queensland’s leading designers and design educators have been on the road touring regional Queensland communities over the past nine months to showcase Queensland design through regional galleries, and workshop the design process with students.

The last stop on the unleashed Queensland Design tour is Bundaberg, stopping in at Hinkler Hall of Aviation from 2 – 28 September 2010.

After Bundaberg, the exhibition will travel back to Brisbane for an encore at the State Library of Queensland from 3 – 28 October to coincide with two international design events – Unlimited Asia Pacific Design Triennial 2010 and ICOGRADA Week 2010.

The return exhibition entitled unleashed-queensland design on tour roadshow finale will display some of the photos and student work from the goDesign Workshop Program and unleashed gallery events from all over Queensland.

The touring exhibition program, presented by the Design Institute of Australia, showcases the work of some of Queensland’s most influential designers who have received accolades in the DIA Queensland Design on Show (qdos) Awards program from the past two years.

"Showcasing this work in galleries across the state allows the public to see first hand the benefits of employing professional designers, and the way designers are able to use their observations and insights to create innovate solutions," said Scott Bagnell, president of the DIA Queensland branch.

Young people in regional Queensland have great potential as designers because, living outside cities, adds Natalie Wright, DIA exhibition director, QUT School of Design Lecturer.

"They are forced to think innovatively and solve immediate problems as they emerge. This emulates a designer’s way of thinking,” says Wright.
