New Zealand production company Imagination Television and Tourism Australia are set to create a 10-part episode series, encouraging New Zealanders to re-imagine Australia.
My Kind of Place will feature a wide range of local celebrities from sports stars to TV personalities. Presenters include respected broadcaster Judy Bailey, actresses Lisa Chappell (The Cult, McLeod's Daughters) and Robyn Malcolm (Outrageous Fortune, Shortland Street).
Venturing throughout rural and metropolitan Australia the stars guide viewers through their own individual journeys and favourite adventures.
The show aims to encourage travellers to delve a little deeper into the country that is already the number one holiday destination. The 10 episodes feature many of our finest regions, including Melbourne, Phillip Island and the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, the Barossa and Murray River in South Australia and the Illawarra in New South Wales. Darwin, Katherine and Alice Springs in the Northern Territory get a look in, as do the Daintree and the Whitsundays in Queensland, Broome and Exmouth in West Australia, and Hobart and Port Arthur in Tasmania.
Over a million New Zealanders visit Australia every year said Andrew McEvoy, managing director of Tourism Australia.
"Of those, 92 per cent return for more of their favourite holiday destination," he said. "My Kind of Place goes a long way towards satisfying this appetite for Aussie experiences that are unique and accessible."
The 30 minute show will go to air on the state-owned broadcaster TV1 at the prime time spot of 7.30pm with an estimated 800,000 viewers, 225,000 of whom are the target market for tourism Australia, 25 - 64 year olds.
The campaign will be executed across television and online as well as via social media channels alongside partners Air New Zealand.
The show premiers on July 16 with All Blacks stars Josh Kronfield and Frank Brunce going on the ultimate ‘mancation’ in the Illawarra region.
