Tip Top's new summer campaign

Nick Worthington of Colenso BBDO recently briefed The Sweet Shop's Mark Albiston and Louis Sutherland to direct eight spots for the Tip Top new summer campaign.

The director duo's desire to capture a sense of honesty and realness in the varied experiences of summer rang true to the team at Colenso.

Completed in a slightly doco-style, the TVCs were shot by D.O.P Marty Williams. In order to stay light on their feet, they shot with a smaller crew and two Cannon 5 and 7D cameras.

"In a sense it’s pretty easy to make an ad for a favourite product that filled our bellies as kids but the sheer size of this project was a challenge. Thankfully Colenso were very open to our ideas and really trusted us to pull this off – which thankfully we did," says Albiston.

With only five days to shoot eight TVCs, Mark XX and Louis XX decided to cast fresh Kiwi faces. "We went straight to Toi Whakaari NZ drama school, even casting under their roof," he explains. "The school has a name for strong improvisers, something that proved really successful for us."

This is the third project that the director team has completed this year with The Sweet Shop after their short film Six Dollar Fifty Man, winning accolades at both Cannes and Sundance.
