The Furnace appoints Tom Spicer

The Furnace has appointed Tom Spicer, a senior creative at London-based WCRS, to the role of joint national creative director.

The Furnace joint national creative director Paul Fenton has been searching for a creative partner since the beginning of the year, following the departure of Rob Martin Murphy.

Spicer has also worked at M&C Saatchi and BBH in London and will take on the new role in October.

Fenton said: "It was exciting talking about The Furnace with someone who I instinctively felt was as passionate about it as me."

Spicer said: "Australian advertising is enjoying a purple patch at the moment. As media diversifies and budgets are cut around the world the most creative and resourceful markets are coming to the fore.

"We've entered an era where top creativity can solve bottom line problems like never before and The Furnace is right at the heart of that."
