The APPAs now open for entry

The Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP) is calling on photographers to start preparing their images for submission to the Canon AIPP Australian Professional Photography Awards (APPAs).

The AIPP is pleased to announce a new ‘Fusion’ category in 2011.

With the increase in video photography taken using a still camera, Fusion Photography allows photographers to integrate video clips into picture slide shows.

"With rapid changes taking place in the world of digital photography, the AIPP strives to ensure the awards remain relevant for all genres of photography," said AIPP executive officer Peter Myers.

Additionally, there will be changes to the Commercial category.

In place of the AIPP Commercial Photographer of the Year award will be three separate commercial categories: advertising, fashion and corporate.

"The introduction of the new commercial categories will allow for more opportunities for photographers of different genres," said Canon AIPP APPAs chairman Peter Eastway.

"All commercial entries will be judged digitally meaning that no prints will be required," continued Eastway.

Entries for the awards open Monday April 4, 2011, and will be received online until Wednesday May 25, 4.30pm with print submissions received up until 5.00pm, Friday 28th May 2011.

To enter the Canon AIPP APPAs, photographers must register online first.

Judging for the Canon AIPP APPAs will take place in Sydney’s Darling Harbour from 24th – 26th June and is open to the public for viewing.

The winner of the awards will be announced at a dinner on June 27, 2011, in Sydney.

Branded content design demands

Branded content is here to stay, that is for sure. So what does that mean for designers? Having a sponsor on board means that you have to create composite logos, which is quite challenging; essentially you need to create a logo that holds another logo.
