Pool Productions has announced Bridget Mac as the inaugural recipient of the $10,000 ‘Pool Grant' at the Sydney screening of Projections 2010 at The Chauvel Cinema, held recently in Paddington, Sydney.
Founded in 2008 by Sean Izzard and Simon Harsent, Pool is a collective of photographers.
The Pool Grant was devised to keep up with their commitment to the development of new talent and is run in association with ACMP and Projections 2010.
Open to students, assistants and photographers (in their first three years ofshooting professionally) the $10,000 prize was awarded to assist research and produce a photographic project of their choice.
From a vast array of submissions received, Mac’s idea to shoot portraits of creatives (artists, musicians etc) who grew up in the Eastern Bloc, in particular East Germany before the fall of the Berlin wall, combined with her technical photographic ability stood out to the judges.
Her resulting body of work will be presented at Projections 2011.
Unable to collect the award in person, Mac sent a video acceptance speech from Iceland where she is currently working on another project.
