Taming the desert

Chris Sisarich has scored at the converted PDN Curator Awards, with his incredible work “Somewhere in the Middle of Nowhere”.

The curator placed a global search for seven artists to be awarded.Their work will be printed in the June publication and will also be showcased at a gallery exhibition at Milk Studios in New York, during its summer exhibition series.

“Somewhere in the Middle of Nowhere” was developed during his recent trip to Egypt, whilst shooting for the global Tourism Egypt Campaign.

“It’s hard to tell whether I’m looking at all that’s left after a futile attempt at taming the desert, or witnessing the first tentative steps towards creating somewhere people can live," says Sisarich.

"Either way, it is sparse in content with a lot of what isn’t there. An area pretty much defined by its negative space, blessed with light sliding in from no particular direction. The random locals and sporadic things they’ve made, only seem to make the landscapes emptier,” he said.
