The Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP) will join forces with Arts Freedom Australia (AFA) this Sunday to take a stand against increasing limitations, fees and applications processes imposed on professional photographers.
It is expected that hundreds of professional photographers and AIPP members armed with tripods and cameras will stage a public rally from 10am to 12 noon near Campbell Cove, Sydney Harbour on Sunday 29th August.
AIPP President Robert Edwards said, "Photographers around the world are under increasing pressure to perform their jobs in public spaces with limitations and restrictions enforced on the industry".
"There are cases in Europe where photographers have been sued years down the track for photographs taken in a public space even with the subject’s consent. More and more restrictions are imposed on photographers and their work and, unfortunately, this appears to be the way that Australia is also heading," continued Robert.
A study conducted by the AFA showed that the rights of Australian professional and amateur photographers, in comparison to those in Canada, New Zealand and the USA, are being seriously affected by rules and regulations that impose prohibitive restrictions, high fees and bureaucratic application protocols on photographers.
Photographers are encouraged to turn up with tripods and cameras as part of the rally.
