Postmodern bring on Stephen Douglas

Postmodern and Australian feature facility Efilm have announced that Stephen Douglas is to join their team as executive producer.

Douglas’ appointment comes off the back of nine years in New Zealand, and at a time when Postmodern and Efilm are expanding after being acquired by international VFX house CIS Visual Effects Group, based in Hollywood and Vancouver.

"With CIS coming on board earlier this year, and with the opportunities for growth this new strategic relationship presents us, the time was right to expand our management team," says Postmodern founder and executive producer Andrew Robinson.

"Bringing Stephen into the business increases our capability and allows us to spread our wings further in the Australian market, and especially in terms of reach into Asia Pacific."

A native South Londoner, Douglas has spent the last nine of his 25 years in the business. Douglas’ foundation lies squarely in post.

Having carved out a career in the European film and TVC market, he moved down under in 2002, headhunted directly from London’s Condor Digital Media for a senior role in Auckland.

A highlight of his tenure in New Zealand was time spent working with Australasian production company Film Construction, as general manager for both its New Zealand and Australian operations.

Douglas left Film Construction the same time the company achieved ‘Production Company of the Year’ status at Axis 2007, and having picked up Silver and Bronze at Cannes Lions the same year.

2007 saw Douglas return to his roots, joining Auckland post production and VFX house Digipost, as general manager, spearheading its expansion into international TVC markets.

Douglas says: “I have really enjoyed my time in New Zealand -- the challenges and successes, and especially the great friends I’ve made."

"However, the opportunity to team up with the legendary Andrew Robinson and the creative people at Postmodern and Efilm was an opportunity not to be missed," he says.
