Oasis Post sound designer Martyn Zub has been awarded for his creativity and originality for a radio advertisement for The Adelaide Zoo in the 2010 Siren Awards.
For the first round of the Siren Awards, the Adelaide Zoo radio commercial took out first place for ‘craft,’ after collaborating with Andrew Bensley from Show Pony Advertising on the creative.
Recognising the vital role played by sound engineers in the production of great radio, the craft category also encourages industry professionals to never stop pushing the boundaries in sound.
In the lead up to Mothers Day 2010, the commercial was aired and proclaims to offer the perfect present for Mum – a ticket to the Adelaide Zoo.
The advertisement highlights how a child has prepared a bath for her Mother, with all the typical elements of candles and jasmine scents.
At this time you can cleverly hear the trickles of the water in the bath and the daughter asking her Mother how the bath is from outside the bathroom.
Then the Mother screams in shock; a crocodile emerges and consumes her with the closing line – “give Mum a real surprise this Mothers Day. Visit Adelaide Zoo.”
Oasis Post’s head of post production Kate Butler says: “Martyn is one of our most talented sound designers and this piece of work showcases that with a combination of the right sound effects and creative concepts, you can truly bring a radio commercial visually to life for the listener.”
