A new awards program, titled The Glossy Awards, has been launched to recognise creativity in magazine advertising.
Launched by Australian CREATIVE magazine and AdNews parent company Yaffa Publishing, the awards aim to recognise and reward creative excellence in magazine advertising across 21 categories including most innovative use of magazines, best use of photography, and integrated campaign of the year.
The awards also include a Grand Prix, with the winner receiving a $5000 cash prize.
The awards will be judged by a panel of creatives and will be chaired by Clemenger BBDO Sydney executive creative director Paul Nagy.
Nagy said: "The ads in a magazine should be a feature and should stand out. anything that helps lift the standard is a good thing."
The call for entries will be launched on March 25, 2011, with an entry deadline of June 3, 2011.
Supported by major sponsor automotive brand Renault, The Glossy Awards will be published in AdNews across print and online on September 9, 2011 and reviewed in Australian CREATIVE.
Yaffa Publishing group sales manager James Yaffa said creative excellence in magazine advertising deserved its own platform dedicated to recognition and support.
"The Glossy Awards will help raise the bar on creative advertising in magazines, which is good for the creatives, the clients and ultimately the publishers, who are all looking to demonstrate the power of magazines to advertise," he said.
The Glossy Awards winners will also earn points towards the AdNews Agency Ranking system.

Branded content is here to stay, that is for sure. So what does that mean for designers? Having a sponsor on board means that you have to create composite logos, which is quite challenging; essentially you need to create a logo that holds another logo.
