Entries Open to Melbourne Design Awards

Entries have opened to the Melbourne Design Awards (MDA) – a new awards program in association with the Design Institute of Victoria that honours Melbourne’s best design across more than fifty categories. The MDA will culminate with a gala ceremony announcing the winners on December 8, 2010.

The MDA awards recognising a broad range of design categories, that are cross-disciplinary and honour all aspects of the design process. In addition, the public are able to vote for finalists after industry panels have reviewed entries.

Mark Bergin, creative director of MDA said the awards stemmed from a wish to elevate the profile of the entire design process, not just the end result. He added that the MDA will help form stronger links between designers and the broader public.

"MDA is about engaging industry and the public in all stages of design. By honouring the best of Melbourne’s design, we elevate the city’s position as a design hotspot globally," says Bergin.

The MDA features a range of categories covering excellence across fields including advertising graphic design, fashion, photography and digital media.

Melbourne is the inaugural city for the program’s parent association, the City Design Awards, which has plans for Design Awards in Paris, New York, Stockholm, Helsinki and Taipei.
