Engine and McCann's create priceless music for MasterCard

The latest work from Engine for McCann Ericsson and MasterCard has been launched – the second in the series Priceless Music – this time with the band Kasabian.

Creative director for Engine, Simon Robson, said the previous TVC featuring Birds of Tokyo was well received and they were keen to produce the follow up.
"We all went into the Kasabian project will a lot of confidence," he said. "There was a dark, moody script which we had to tailor and adapt to their target youth demographic and this led us to create a cool chain reaction effect throughout the spot."

The TVC has an epic quality, fitting for a rock band and a final scene panning across Melbourne’s Docklands in a long dramatic live action shot.
"We worked closely with our in-house DOPs to build the final shot and create the right camera moves," said Robson. "It involved blocking the whole scene out and building the entire set to scale in 3D – the reverse of the usual approach as this meant replicating what we usually do in 3D in real life. A lot of hard work but a lot of fun."

McCann's executive creative director, Michael Raso, said the agency was happy with the process and end result.
"The way Engine tackled the aggressive cutting and tracking in worked extremely well and added great energy into the spot," he said. "It was also a big plus that they took care of everything in-house from storyboarding through production to post."
