AUCKLAND/MIAMI: Curious Film’s Darryl Ward has returned from Miami after pulling off a feat: filming the world’s godfather of punk-rock Iggy Pop re-recording ‘The Passenger’ with nine musicians from New Zealand.
Ward filmed Iggy singing in his Miami studio while nine completely unknown Kiwis performed drums, guitar, flute, xylophone and violin 13,000 kilometres away in New Zealand.
In a simultaneous performance captured over the internet, Iggy and his eclectic band of Kiwis made history by re-recording ‘The Passenger’ decades after its original release.
Darryl Ward had eight hours to shoot the performances, which were captured on webcam before being cut and mixed with Iggy’s vocals. The shoot gave 9 New Zealanders the chance to share the stage with one of the world’s true rock Gods.
The video clip is now airing in New Zealand on TV and web.
The campaign was created by Auckland agency Special to promote Orcon Broadband.
