Cutting Edge VFX on fire with two CLIO nominations

Ride, the Coca-Cola Europe online film promoting the energy drink Burn, has been short listed for two CLIO awards in the direction and online categories.

Produced by Exit Films for Publicis Mojo, the film, shot on location in the urban streets of Mexico City, features skateboarders leaving trails of flames in their wake as a metaphor for their intense creative expression.

Directed by Garth Davis and produced by Karen Sproul with VFX by Cutting Edge, the riders were on fire for the piece. The stunts were coordinated by LA-based skate guru and blogger Steve Berra.

Davis said the intent was to aim for a deeper, more compelling result than the usual high energy branding typically used by competitors.
“One of the great mistakes you can make is to over-romanticise skateboarding,” he said.
“Skaters smell it a mile off and will hate you for it. This was all about doing the stunts and and fire for real, respecting the skaters and keeping a surreal, cinematic feel.”
