The music video for 'Big Jet Plane' from the brother/sister duo Angus & Julia Stone's album 'Down The Way' is the first production from newly established The Silentlights -- a Sydney based creative team producing a wide range of motion picture work alongside a number of creative and collaborative partners.
The Silentlights' Kiku Ohe is a freelance director that has worked with brands such as Witchery, Tooheys Extra Dry and RSVP and shot music documentary footage for artists such as Daft Punk, Cut Copy, The Presets and Soulwax's feature film Part Of The Weekend Never Dies.
The creative brief for the music video was to create a cinematic and non-glossy visual representation of the music.
This resulted in creating a simple story exploring the idea of escapism from a mundane/everyday situation that most people who have endured a listless job can relate to.
The production was shot on location in Auburn, Western Sydney, at a US-style discount two-dollar shop, where on the surface the colour and gloss has a sense of novelty but underneath the surface the emptiness of the commercialism was the perfect location for the story to play out.
The check out chick was played by AFI-award winning actress Emily Barclay. The film clip was shot by cinematographer Hugh Miller.
