Australia drops rank at Cannes Lions

Australia's most outstanding result in Cannes has been Clemenger BBDO Melbourne taking out the Grand Prix in the PR category. Its work with the National Australia Bank's Break Up campaign has been touted as one of the most successful campaigns ever by the financial institution.

Diageo took out a Gold Lion for its work with Leo Burnett Sydney for Bundaberg Rum and the Break Up campaign also landed a Silver Lion.

JWT Sydney won a Silver in the Outdoor category for restaurant chain, Sushi Train. The Outdoor Grand Prix went to Droga 5. Although the campaign was devised through the New York office, Australia likes to claim David Droga as a native and the agency maintains an Australian base.

The now defunct agency Happy Soldiers picked up two Silver Lions in the Media category for its work with Pacific Dunlop's Tontine Pillows. Ikon landed a Silver Lion for work with the Commonwealth Bank. OMD Sydney picked up a Bronze Lion for its Telstra campaign.

Australian work shone in the Radio Lions coming second in overall rankings with Three Drunk Monkees winning the Gold Lion for its humourous Kitchen Installation campaign for IKEA. JayGrey picked up three Silver Lions for 4 Pines and the Reckitt Benckiser's Strepsils campaign took out a Bronze Lion for work created by Eardrum.

Three Australian awards in the Promo & Activation Lions saw more awards for Happy Soldiers and Tontine with both a Silver and Bronze Lion in the category. JWT's campaign for the Melbourne Writers Festival took out a Bronze.

Australia's Young Lions are tracking well scoring two honours out of the three competitions. The News Limited sponsored Print Team picked up a Gold Lion and the Media Team (made up of Lachlan Williams from Razor, Sydney and Jessica Woodford from 303, Perth) received a Highly Commended for their media strategy for a Brazilian rainforest NGO.

Stay tuned for more results as they happen on AdNews special bulletins and Australian Creative follow up articles on the creative processes behind the winning work.
