The finalists in the 22nd annual Australian Commercial Radio Awards (ACRAs) were announced with this year’s Best Talk Presenter (metropolitan) finalists including 2009 winner, Derryn Hinch (3AW), three-time winner, Neil Mitchell (3AW) and multiple ACRA winner Ray Hadley (2GB).
All three are also finalists in the Best Current Affairs Presenter (metropolitan) category, with first time nominee in the category, Eddie McGuire (Triple M).
In the hotly contested Best On-Air Team there are seven of Australia’s on-air teams competing for the top honour of Best On-Air Team (metropolitan).
Two-time winners Hamish and Andy (Fox FM 101.9) are up against new drive time duo Ants and Becks (Mix 101.1), two time winners, Kyle and Jackie O (2Day FM), plus the FiveAA Breakfast Show, The Matt and Jo Show (Fox FM), Hughesy & Kate (Nova 100) and Fitzy, Claire and Jules (Nova 919).
A new category this year, Best New Digital Radio Format, recognises the innovation and development of digital radio in Australia. On air for nearly 12 months, there have been up to 18 new digital only stations added in each digital radio market.
The finalists are; Koffee (DMG), NovaNation (DMG), Sky Sports Radio 2 (Sky Sports Radio), The Edge Digital (ARN), Classic Hits Plus (ARN), Choose the Hits Jelli (Austereo) and Radar (Austereo).
Chief executive officer of Commercial Radio Australia, Joan Warner said: “The ACRAs are a much anticipated event within a highly competitive radio industry. The depth of talent and the increasing number of high quality entries each year across all areas of radio in Australia makes the job of the judging panel very difficult.”
