Jonathan May (10)

After finishing school, Jonathan May began working in print production and publishing before crossing over into advertising. But neither industry gave him the creative freedom and opportunities he desired. Night photography excursions just weren't enough, so May enrolled in the Australian Centre of Photography. His final artworks, submitted for assessment at the conclusion of the course, received a highly commendable award and earned May a scholarship for a consecutive course.

In 2007, he spent seven months travelling the world with his camera, surfboard and muse, Lilia. He visited South America, Mexico, Northern America, Israel, Spain, France and Russia.

The highlight of the trip was having his own Russian photography exhibition, and at the time, he was the first Australian photographer to exhibit at Moscow's Central House of Artists, where he displayed 35 of his limited-edition prints.

Footage of the Russian exhibition was broadcast on national television and can be viewed at:

Upon his return to Sydney, May is happy to be following his dream of shooting for a living. He has recently exhibited his work at the Global Gallery, Paddington, and Art Moments and Katipo Gallery, Bondi, Sydney.
